In the latest episode of House of the Dragon, viewers learned a little more about Ser Larys Strong's personal proclivities, and now the director of the episode has shed new light on the scene in question. This story contains spoilers for House of the Dragon.

In Episode 9, Larys (Matthew Needham) and Queen Alicent (Olivia Cooke) share a quiet moment in which Alicent removes her shoes and socks, exposing her feet on a table near Larys as the two discuss how their plans are unfolding. At the end of the scene, Alicent turns away and Larys puts his hand down his pants to seemingly pleasure himself.

Clare Kilner, who directed Episode 9, described the scene to Entertainment Weekly like this: "Looking at her feet and then having a wank, basically."

Larys is nicknamed "Clubfoot" for his disabled foot, which causes him to walk with a cane. In this scene, the camera cuts to Larys' disabled foot for a semi-sustained period of time, suggesting there is some connection between his disability and his (presumed) fetish. Executive producer and writer Sara Hess came up with the idea for Larys to have a foot fetish, Kilner said.

"Her mind is incredible. I mean, she really wrote us a wonderful episode, I have to say," Kilner said. "But, yeah, that was an interesting scene actually... Funnily enough, you get the intimacy coordinators [for] all the nudity, but they don't think about it for this. It's so intrusive and invasive. It's a really dirty scene."

Larys has been Alicent's confidant and helper since she was a young girl. He has even killed members of his own family to support Alicent's cause. The two have held a connection for decades, but this was the first time we saw this specific angle to their relationship on House of the Dragon.

House of the Dragon Episode 9 moved the story along in a big way, with King Viserys (Paddy Considine) confirmed dead and Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) reluctantly ascending the Iron Throne. The episode ended with a bang, as Rhaenys (Eve Best) rescued her dragon, Meleys, and used her to threaten Aegon and the Hightowers. She could have killed them, presumably, but opted to stare them down instead.

The Season 1 finale trailer reveals that Rhaenys flew on dragonback to Dragonstone to warn Rhaenyra and Daemon about Aegon ascending the throne instead of Rhaenyra, who may be the rightful heir.

Episode 10 of House of the Dragon airs this Sunday, October 23 on HBO. The show has already been renewed for a second season, but there is no word yet as to when it will debut or what the story could be. Author George R.R. Martin has said he believes House of the Dragon needs four full seasons to tell its story properly.
